A seasoned star guard, Jrue Holiday, has allegedly signed a four-year, $135 million deal extension amid a stellar first season with the Boston Celtics. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN circulated the information on Wednesday, mentioning Jason Glushon, Holiday’s agent.
Jrue Holiday had a $37.4 million player option for the following season, now worth $35 million. However, according to reports, the two-time All-Star passed up the chance to sign a contract that would have kept him in the NBA through the conclusion of the 2027–2028 season.
The Celtics’ decision improves their prospects of retaining their core group hungry for an NBA title, and it is expected to save them millions of dollars in salary cap space for the next season.
On October 1, Boston acquired Jrue Holiday from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for two first-round choices: veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon and center Robert Williams III. Only four days had passed since the Milwaukee Bucks acquired ace point guard Damian Lillard in a stunning trade that sent Holiday to Portland.

Over his first season with the Celtics, Holiday has experienced a substantial dip in his counting metrics. As the primary point guard for one of the NBA title favorites, he’s averaging 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game, per the NBA website. Jrue Holiday’s scoring role has diminished, but he is still a rugged defender who fits in nicely with the Celtics’ scheme and consistently shoots the three-point line.
His dependable experience and outstanding ball-handling abilities have blessed the Celtics. This team has long battled to find a suitable complement for Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The 33-year-old’s new contract is good through his 37th season. His gaming style does, however, age nicely. Jrue Holiday is still regarded as one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA. In the meantime, he ranks eighth in the NBA in 3-point efficiency while making 4.7 tries per game at a career-best 43.1% shooting percentage.
