It was the video that shocked everybody last week that showed free agent NBA guard J.R. Smith beating down a protester after he allegedly caught the culprit vandalizing his car.
As it turns out, however, it is unlikely that Smith will be facing criminal charges, according to TMZ Sports.
“Law enforcement sources tell us … the victim has not gone to police — no report has been filed — and, at this point, we’re told it seems highly unlikely that will happen.
Our sources tell us without a victim coming forward, there’s no way for prosecutors to even attempt to levy charges against the 34-year-old.”
Smith dodged a major bullet, because even though he had every right to stop the person from vandalizing his private property, it was taken overboard by continuing to punch and kick the guy as they tried to flee.

It’s not shocking that unknown person has not come forward as they don’t want to face scrutiny and possible charges for vandalizing his property. Smith did admit that he was also in the wrong and apologized for not being able to keep his cool.
The guard last played for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2018-19 season.
