Ball Arena witnessed some of the most electric crowds on Saturday night. The Denver Nuggets faced the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 1 of the playoffs’ first round. Previously, the Lakers had shown great determination before the matchup.
However, they failed to stand up against the mighty Nuggets. The fans in the Ball arena went electric when the final buzzer was about to hit. Thousand of people chanted in unison to aggravate the team visiting them. A vast “Who’s your Daddy?” chant started, after which the people cheered and clapped as the final buzzer hit.
These chants have a long history behind them. It all started when the Lakers lost the Western Conference finals against the Nuggets last year. Since then, a lot of dialogue has happened between both sides. The most memorable and direct source of the chant is the introduction of the Nuggets Head coach by the Nuggets announcer in the championship parade.
“He came into this world as the son of a coach, but in these playoffs, he became the Lakers daddy!” said Vic Lombardi, the Nuggets announcer. The phrase stuck in the community, and the Nuggets fans used it cleverly on occasion to tease the Lakers and their fans.
