Joel Embiid, the 2023 NBA MVP, has accomplished many milestones in his career. He recently marked another success by signing a maximum contract extension deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. With his new deal, the Paris Olympics 2024 gold medalist joined his fellow USA teammates LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant in an elite club.
The Philadelphia 76ers center signed a three-year, $193 million contract extension with a player option in the 2028-29 season. Following his recent deal, Embiid will earn $515 million in career earnings, the fourth highest in NBA history. The seven-time NBA All-Star shared his excitement about the extension on social media.
In his latest Instagram post, Embiid wrote, “Philadelphia is home. I want to be here for the rest of my career. I love this community and everything you’ve given me and my family. Joel Embiid’s Contract Breakdown
Embiid, the Philadelphia 76ers’ third overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, signed a four-year, $19 million rookie contract with the franchise. After missing his first two seasons in the NBA due to a foot injury, Embiid scored 20 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks against the Oklahoma City Thunder in his debut game.

After leading the team to the Conference semifinals in 2018, the 7-foot Cameroonian-American signed a five-year, $147 million rookie extension with the Sixers. During the five years, Philadelphia qualified for the playoffs each season, reaching the semi-finals on four occasions. Embiid won two scoring champion titles and an MVP honor in the last two NBA seasons of his deal.
In 2023, Embiid signed a four-year, $213 million veteran extension with a $59 million player option in the 2026-27 season. With his new three-year deal, the Sixers center’s previous player option will be replaced with a $59.5 million guaranteed salary. In the final two seasons of his contract, the 30-year-old will earn $133 million with a $69 million player option in the 2028-29 season.

Paul George recently signed a four year, $211 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, making a $519 million of total career earning. However, after signing his new extension, Embiid surpassed Phoenix Suns star forward Kevin Durant, who has amassed $508 million in his career.
