The Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has accumulated multiple accolades in his resume throughout his NBA career. But to get the MVP title, he had to wait till the 2022–23 season after leading the NBA in scoring for the second consecutive year. Nevertheless, the Sixers star is ready to trade this long-awaited title.
Reportedly, the 7x All-Star told his trainer, Drew Hanlen, that he would trade his MVP trophy for one healthy postseason.
Embiid has been a victim of numerous injuries, including knee soreness, orbital fractures, a torn thumb ligament, and ankle injury.
The Sixers’ star’s highest number of games played was 68 during the 2021-22 season. If he had been able to maintain his performance across 75 games a season, it’s likely he would have accumulated even more success, possibly including another MVP award.
Joel Embiid Reflects on GOAT Debate and Injury Challenges
Joel Embiid’s name is seldom mentioned in the debate for the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in basketball. In a recent interview with the New York Times, Embiid shared his thoughts on why this might be the case, attributing it largely to his injury issues.
“I think I’m that talented. Obviously you need to win championships, and to win championships you need other guys. You can’t do it by yourself. I want to win so badly,” Embiid said.

“But if you don’t, you just got to understand that as long as you care about the right stuff, if it doesn’t happen, maybe it wasn’t meant to happen. So, yeah—II kind of forgot the question,” he added.
Despite the injury and not knowing the recipe of a simple basketball trick, Embiid ended last season averaging 34.7 points, 11 rebounds, and 5.6 assists in 39 games.
