Former ESPN analyst and NBA player JJ Redick reportedly has embraced the head coach job of the Los Angeles Lakers. Though Magic Johnson issued a stern warning for the hiring, Lakers star Austin Reaves has already become a fan of their new head coach.
During a recent interview with reporters, Reaves praised Redick, calling him a “basketball genius.” Later, Reaves expressed his excitement about collaborating with the new head coach.
“He’s a basketball genius. I think he’s gonna make a good coach. He actually texted me yesterday & wanted to get on a call. I can’t wait to put our brains together and have a good year,” Reaves said.
The Lakers initially targeted UConn head coach Dan Hurley, offering him a six-year, $70 million contract. However, Hurley chose to stay with UConn and turned down the Lakers’ offer.
Subsequently, reports indicate that the Lakers decided to hire Redick, agreeing to a four-year deal worth approximately $8 million per year. Although the team has not officially announced the hiring, the buzz around Redick’s new position continues to grow.
