Over the years, LeBron James has been the face of the NBA. Although many exceptional players came along and showcased their talents on the hardwood, no one could replace him. However, now that he has mentioned that his days are numbered, people are laying in their opinions about the next poster boy of the NBA. Among them is former NBA player turned analyst JJ Redick.
During his recent appearance on “The Big Podcast With Shaq”, when Redick was asked who could be the future face of the league in terms of playoff performance, he named three players; the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, OKC’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards. Praising the Wolves guard, Redick said, “Ant to me is, like, when we talk about like the next face of the NBA… he could be that guy.”
The 6-foot-4 guard had a phenomenal first-round performance in the post-season series, averaging 31 points, 8 rebounds, 6.25 assists, and 2 steals per game against the Phoenix Suns. His athletic abilities, footwork, and ball-handling skills have earned him comparisons with NBA legend Michael Jordan.
Anthony Edwards Earns Young Michael Jordan Comparison
Every player who comes after Michael Jordan dreams of playing like the 6-time champion, but not everyone can fulfill that. Anthony Edwards has been one stand-out player who was able to duplicate similar skills, and that has also been admitted by his teammate, Mike Conley.
When Shaquille O’Neal asked Conley which great player Edwards reminds him of, he said, “I think you guys mentioned it a lot, a young Michael Jordan.” Showering the 22-year-old with heaps of praise, Conley stated, “He’s unbelievable. I think more than anything with him, it’s been his mentality. I never met a guy who believes more in himself than Anthony Edwards.”

MJ himself reportedly admitted that Edwards displays a glimpse of what he once had. The young guard has been brilliant both defensively and offensively and has moved to the second round of the playoff series, where they will face last year’s champions, the Denver Nuggets, on Saturday.
