The Los Angeles Lakers faced a challenging defeat on Friday night, falling short by a score of 93-101 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. In a critical moment of the game, Lakers guard Max Christie committed a frustrating foul, a point that head coach JJ Redick has recently highlighted.
In the final minute of the fourth quarter, with the score at 95-93 in favor of the Lakers, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander focused on making a critical shot. However, Christie committed a foul, mistakenly believing that the Lakers had an additional foul to give. Following the game, head coach Redick commented on the incident, labeling it a misunderstanding that needed to be addressed.
“JJ Redick said he’s not sure if Max Christie thought the Lakers had a foul to give. But he said Christie looked toward him, Redick told him the defensive coverage, and that Christie might’ve interpreted that as a sign to foul.” Jovan Buha of The Athletic wrote in his latest post on X (formerly Twitter).

Following the foul, Gilgeous-Alexander was awarded two free throws, both of which he successfully converted. The game’s outcome could have been different if Christie had not committed that foul.
JJ Redick Highlights Strong Defensive Bond Despite Recent Loss
The Lakers’ loss to the Thunder at the Crypto.com Arena marks the team’s eighth defeat of the 2024-25 NBA season. Following this loss, they currently hold the 6th spot in the Western Conference standings with a record of 11 wins and eight losses.
The game was particularly disheartening for Lakers fans, especially since star player Anthony Davis managed to take only ten shots. Nonetheless, J.J. Redick maintains optimism, stating that he believes the team remains cohesive on the defensive end despite the tough loss.

“I think the biggest takeaway is we have a lot to build on defensively over the last two games. That is the most connected our team has been on that end of the floor since the first game of the season.” Redick said.
The Lakers will compete against the Utah Jazz in their upcoming game, generating excitement among fans.
