The Cleveland Cavaliers had a dominating start to the 2024-25 NBA season and are currently enjoying an impressive regular season. They sit at the top of the Eastern Conference standings with 29 wins and four losses. To prepare for their games against the Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick made an honest confession about the challenges his team faces.
The Lakers recently faced off against the Cavaliers. Austin Reaves, Anthony Davis, and LeBron James delivered stellar performances; however, their efforts were not enough to secure a victory, as the Cavaliers won the game with a final score of 122-110. In his post-game press conference, Redick noted that to triumph over the Cavaliers, the Lakers must play “close to perfect basketball.”
“You know, we didn’t get a stop coming out of the timeout and it was 114-107, but Austin had a great look after timeout play, I live with that, it was wide open top of the key and he’s having a night so could have cut it to four right there, we certainly had our chances and really believe this against teams as good as Cleveland you have to play close to perfect basketball.” Redick said.

The Lakers recently made a surprising move by trading D’Angelo Russell and Maxwell Lewis to the Brooklyn Nets in a potential deal. In exchange, the Lakers acquired Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton. However, neither of the new additions contributed much to the game against the Cavaliers. Furthermore, Redick recently highlighted the significance of the trade involving Russell leaving the team.
JJ Redick Highlights Impressive Abilities Of Cavalier Players
In a post-game interview, Redick praised the impressive skills exhibited by the Cavaliers players during the match. He expressed admiration for their exceptional three-point shooting abilities, noting that their precision and confidence from beyond the arc played a crucial role in the game’s outcome.
“They have some really good shot makers on their team and overall our defense in terms of execution, physicality, intensity was good. You think about some of those threes they made and some of the threes we missed. They were obviously able to generate 11 more, but it’s really the difference in the game.” Redick said.
