JJ Redick has taken on his first coaching responsibility, aiming to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to new heights this season. While some critics have pointed out his lack of head coaching experience, many veterans, including expressed their trust in Redick’s abilities.
Despite the criticism, Redick is confident in his approach. Under his leadership, the Lakers finished the preseason with two wins and four losses. In a recent interview with Jovan Buha of The Athletic, Redick candidly discussed his growth as a coach during the Lakers’ preseason.
“This is all simultaneously familiar and new, if that makes sense. There’s a duality to this for me right now. I’m just trying to be open-minded and self-critical at all times. That’s also some duality there as well. So I can’t really say, like, specific things where I’m like, ‘Oh, I’ve already grown here,” Redick said.
“The biggest thing for me is to provide as much clarity as possible to our players. And I think our coaching staff has done that so far,” he added.
JJ Redick Praises Anthony Davis’ Three-Point Shooting in the Lakers’ Win
Redick was thrilled with Anthony Davis’ performance during the Lakers’ recent victory against the Phoenix Suns, where Davis hit 4-of-9 three-point attempts. Following the win, Redick expressed his admiration for Davis’ confidence.
“He’s confident. It’s the willingness that he is exciting right now. You guys asked me about the balance of that before the game; we’re gonna find that balance. He’s gonna find that balance. He’s got to be willing; I think that’s the most important thing. I drew up the first play of the game for him to shoot a 3 and he knocks it down,” Redick said.
