One thing the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us is we have a lot more doctors, nurses, and scientists in our everyday life that we never knew were there before March 2020.
The COVID-19 vaccine has become a major point of discussion in sports as notable players continue to rail against it for their own reasons. During Thursday night’s broadcast of the Heat playing the Rockets, NBA commentator Jeff Van Gundy decided to clown those players for not getting vaccinated.
“You know the one that drives me crazy is? ‘I’m doing my own research,'” Van Gundy said. “I would like someone to answer this question: What does that look like? You doing your own research. Are you doing studies yourself? Are you in the lab on a nightly basis? What are you doing? I don’t understands what that means.”
The vaccine has been widely approved and supported my medical professionals worldwide.
“How about this? We got really smart people…a lot smarter than anybody in the NBA, whose already done the research,” Van Gundy continued.
Van Gundy made sure not to mention any names, but the conversation turned to the Brooklyn Nets’ situation with Kyrie Irving who is ineligible to play in a home preseason game, indicating he hasn’t fulfilled New York City’s local vaccine mandate.

If he continues down thispath, Irving will miss at least 41 regular-season home games, two against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden and one at the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco for not getting the vaccine. If the Brooklyn Nets somehow get homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs, those home games he is missing will become even more important.
“Honestly, I’d like to keep that stuff private,” Irving told reporters, via SNY. “I’m a human being first. Obviously living in this public sphere it’s just a lot of questions about what’s going on in the world of Kyrie. And I think I just would love to just keep that private, handle it the right way with my team and go forward together with the plan.
“Obviously I’m not able to be present there today. But that doesn’t mean that I’m putting any limits on the future of me being able to join the team. And I just want to keep it that way, so we can keep that private. But if anyone has any further questions about that, it’ll be the same response. I would like to keep that private, and just please respect that — my privacy.”
