Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen was at the center of trade rumors involving the Golden State Warriors. Reports from Shams Charania indicated that the Warriors had made a significant proposal to acquire Markkanen. However, the Jazz quickly responded by renegotiating Markkanen’s contract, offering him a max deal worth $238 million over five years.
With his new contract secured, Markkanen is set to continue his growth with the Jazz. When asked about the ongoing speculation regarding the Warriors’ interest, Markkanen offered a thoughtful perspective.
“I think [it means] you’ve done things right—that teams want you. I was able to kind of zone it out and really wait for my agent for what’s real,” he said according to ClutchPoints.
Markkanen joined the Jazz in September 2022 after being traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers, alongside teammates Ochai Agbaji and Collin Sexton. During his first season with Utah, Markkanen impressed fans, averaging career highs of 25.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.
Lauri Markkanen Shares His Confidence with the Jazz
Lauri Markkanen is entering his third season with the Utah Jazz. He’s feeling confident about his future with the team following a recent multi-year contract extension. Markkanen reflected on how this time around has been less stressful for him.
“Before in my career it used to be [louder], but now it was moreso, I was able to go home to my family and hang out. I went through it once already during my restricted free agency [summer], going from Chicago to Cleveland, so this was easier for sure. Contract-wise, we couldn’t do anything before August,” the Jazz star said.
