Jayson Tatum is having a legacy-defining postseason with the Celtics and after going up 3-0 against the Pacers, chances are high of him featuring in the 2024 NBA Finals. While the star has been busy on the court with the Cs, little focus is on his life outside of it. Most of the hoop enthusiasts know of his mother, Brandy Cole, who prepared the forward for his NBA life since he was a tyke, and of his father, Justin Tatum. But Tatum also has siblings as a result of his father’s second marriage.
His half-brother Jaycob Tatum plays as a linebacker for Western Illinois University, who is 20. Apart from his college footballer brother, Tatum also has a half-sister, Kayden, 10.
Jayson Tatum had a tough upbringing due to his mother raising him as a single mother. While his mother made Tatum the man he is today, his father was hard on him to shape him as an on-court talent. His father is currently the coach of the Australian NBL team, Illawarra Hawks. Despite his father’s absence from his life, Tatum recognized the effort given by his father for his success and had no hesitation in admitting it.
Jayson Tatum Credits His Parents for His Basketball Career
Jayson Tatum’s parents have lived separately since his birth. While Tatum used to attend his mom’s class, he spent his spare time with his father in the locker rooms of the St. Louis University basketball team.
His father’s tough tutoring of the game was effective for Tatum as he admitted Justin’s contribution to his life. Speaking to KSDK, the 26-year-old said, “He saw the potential in me before I saw it in myself, so having him be that tough on me in basketball really you know, made me tougher on and off the court.”
