Kawhi Leonard’s exit from the USAB Team ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics led to a huge hole that has been met with criticism and controversy. It involved the Celtics guard Jaylen Brown. While many have shared their opinions on the matter, it was finally time for Brown’s closest teammate Jayson Tatum to provide his take.
Recently, Tatum was asked whether he had a conversation with Brown regarding the ongoing issues but the forward answered in the negative. Then the interviewer shot his other question, “Is it tough not having Jaylen here?” To which Tatum replied, “Yeah, I mean, there are so many guys who could take that last spot or whatever. So, yeah, it is.”
Tatum joined the USA team on their international venture but having Brown by his side would have thrilled him more. The two had a great run in the 2023-2024 NBA season, leading the Celtics to the championship title.
Their partnership could have given the USA team an advantage, but the management has made up its mind not to select Brown, especially after the drama that has been created. The 3-time All-Star blamed Nike for executing their grudge against Brown, which affected his selection in the team. The matter soon escalated with many coming forward with their views.
Stephen A. Smith Claps Back at Jaylen Brown
A month and a half ago, Stephen A. Smith spoke on “First Take” about numerous NBA members not liking Jaylen Brown because of his attitude. However, the 2024 Finals MVP didn’t buy the analyst’s theory and asked for his sources that could confirm it.
Firing back at Brown, Smith wrote on his Twitter “Do y’all believe me now?Yo @FCHWPO, do I need to reveal my sources now? Is it not obvious now?”

Rooting for Brown, Smith further added “How in the hell is a $300M man — now a champion and an NBA Finals MVP— who’s clearly a top-two player on the @celtics and a Top-15 player in the world, NOT chosen for Team-USA? B/c his teammate NOT named Tatum is selected before him? Come on y’all!!!”
The decision of the management won’t change as they have stated that they are not looking for exceptionally talented individual players but the ones that fit into the team.
