Jayson Tatum came to Simone Biles’ defense on Tuesday after a radio host criticized her for withdrawing from the Olympic team final for mental health reasons.
The Boston Celtics star quote tweeted a clip of Charlie Kirk calling Biles “a shame to the country” among other things.
“Is it that hard to be supportive and empathetic to what others are going through?” Tatum wrote. “This is someone’s daughter and her health your referring to. Wonder if he has kids and how he would feel as a parent someone talking about his kids this way. Cause I’d be DAMNED. Simone is a hero!”
Biles, who is considered by most to be the greatest gymnast of all time, has amassed more World medals and World gold medals than anyone else in her sport.
The topic of mental health has recently been brought to light after Naomi Osaka withdrew from the French Open for similar reasons. Cleveland Cavaliers’ Kevin Love was widely praised when he spoke about his own batles.
Biles stayed to cheer on her teammates as Team USA fell to Russia in the team final and claimed the silver medal.
