Prior to the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Kawhi Leonard was removed from the roster and replaced by Derrick White, one of Jaylen Brown’s NBA teammates. This change sparked a debate among fans. Brown expressed frustration with the decision and criticized the Team USA officials for not including him in the lineup. In response to Brown’s criticism, Team USA’s managing director, Grant Hill, explained on The Dan Patrick Show that choosing White over Brown was purely a basketball decision. However, Hill’s use of the term “conspiracy theory” sparked controversy with Brown.
“I spoke to (Brown’s) agent. I don’t know if that was before or after things went out on Twitter. But yeah, I think this idea that there’s a conspiracy theory — I always love a good conspiracy theory, but it was really truly a basketball decision and these are tough decisions. But having gone through this with the FIBA competition, you want to find the right balance and the right pieces on the court that we needed.” Hill said.
Brown was unhappy with Hill’s comment and expressed his disagreement on his social media account on X (formerly known as Twitter). The 2024 NBA champion reminded everyone that he had been the vice president of the NBA Players Association at the age of 21.
“Grant Hill calling me a conspiracy theorist is disappointing. I’ve been a VP since I was 21 years old I have a great understanding.” Brown wrote in his latest post on X.
