During a recent game between the Boston Celtics and the Charlotte Hornets, NBA fans witnessed a heated moment in the fourth quarter. Hornets forward Grant Williams was ejected after receiving a flagrant 2 foul for an aggressive collision with star player Jayson Tatum. In response to the foul, Celtics guard Jaylen Brown was visibly upset and quickly confronted Williams.
Following the conclusion of the game, Brown took the opportunity to address the situation. In a post-game interview the 2024 NBA Finals MVP articulated his disappointment regarding Williams’ performance.
“Like, what are we talking about? Y’all see the same play that I was seeing? He hit him like it was a football play. Like, Ray Lewis coming across the middle or something. It is what it is. Grant know better than that. Actions speak loud. It is what it is. We got the win, we move on. But there’s no place in the game for that. I thought JT and Grant was friends. … I guess not.” Brown said.
The Celtics defeated the Hornets by a final score of 124-109. During this matchup, both Brown and Tatum delivered standout performances. Brown made significant contributions by scoring 25 points, alongside five assists and six rebounds. Meanwhile, Tatum excelled with 32 points, three assists, and 11 rebounds, showcasing his talents prominently throughout the game.
Williams Reflects On Brown’s Aggression Following The Heated Moment
Tatum did not discuss the foul during his post-game interview. In contrast, Williams spoke about the incident. While talking with Kayla Burton from NBC Sports Boston, he said he did not mean to hurt Tatum. Williams also mentioned Brown’s strong attitude after the flagrant foul, emphasizing the intensity of the situation.
“JB kind of escalated it, but I understand he’s trying to protect his teammate. But that’s (Tatum) my dog. No matter what I got his back. … No malice or any issue with that.” Williams said in a post-game interview.
