Some Boston Celtics fans may be understandably nervous about the lack of a contract extension for Jaylen Brown, but a new report suggests that there’s nothing to worry about on that front.
The 26-year-old Brown is eligible to sign a massive $295 million super-max extension worth five years. But after the Celtics were eliminated by the Miami Heat in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals, some fans called for the C’s to send away their star guard.
In an update, Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe reports that Brown is not being shopped by the reigning Atlantic Division champions. Despite the unexpected delay up to this point in an extension, all signs point toward Brown signing the $295 million pact:
“They do not intend to make a low-ball offer to him. There have just been other matters for Brown’s camp and the Celtics to handle first. Sure, there will be some negotiations regarding incentives, but league sources continue to insist that Brown and the Celtics will eventually agree on a super-max deal. Sources said the sides are expected to talk during the Las Vegas summer league, which begins Friday.”
Boston has also been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Portland Trail Blazers All-Star guard Damian Lillard, who requested a trade last week. But according to Himmelsbach, Boston doesn’t plan on pursuing a trade for the future Hall of Famer.
Brown is coming off a career year for the Celtics in which he averaged 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. Brown has averaged over 20 points per game in each of the last four seasons.

The Celtics have made the Eastern Conference Finals five times since Brown’s 2016-17 rookie year (2017, 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2023), going as far as the NBA Finals last year. There, they fell to the dynastic Golden State Warriors in six games.
