Jay Williams has clearly been watching Boston Celtics basketball with his eyes closed for the past 20 years.
After an extensive search, the Boston Celtics filled their coaching vacancy when they agreed to hire Brooklyn Nets assistant Ime Udoka as their new head coach, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday.
Udoka will serve as the successor to Brad Stevens, who coached the team from 2013 through this past season. Stevens has since moved into Boston’s front office, and he was responsible for hiring his own replacement.
The news excited Jay Williams as the former NBA player took to Twitter and wrongly stated that the Celtics hired their first head coach of color. He deleted that tweet.
He was seriously wrong as Bill Russell made history as the NBA’s first black head coach. The team also had K.C Jones and not to mention…..Doc Rivers. You know the guy who was head coach of the team that won the 2008 NBA Championship.

In addition to working with the Nets, Udoka played a few years in the NBA before joining the San Antonio Spurs coaching staff in 2012. He was part of the 2014 Championship with the Spurs and then joined the Philadelphia 76ers in 2019 before joining the Nets.
