Everyone seemed to be counting the Toronto Raptors out in the Kawhi Leonard sweepstakes, but according to Jalen Rose, it appears as though the reigning champs are in the driver’s seat again.
During an appearance on ESPN’s “Get Up” earlier today, Rose claimed he was 99 percent certain Kawhi would be re-signing with the Raptors.
As Rose states, should Kawhi sign a two-year deal with the Raptors, as an eight-year veteran, that would put him at 10 years when he hits free agency again in 2021, which would allow him to cash in big time — as free agents with 10-years experience can sign max contracts worth up to 35% of the salary cap, which is expected to be higher in 2021.
Of course, there have also been plenty of rumors circulating that the Lakers still believe they are the frontrunners for Kawhi.
The fact of the matter is that Kawhi is a quiet guy. All of this is just speculation. And until he actually signs on the dotted line and makes an announcement, it’s anyone’s guess where the 2019 NBA Finals MVP will play next season.
