The NY Knicks had many doubters while entering the playoff tournament but the team proved them wrong by defeating the 76ers 4-2 in the round-one series. Most of the credit goes to Jalen Brunson, who displayed his masterclass in the regular season and drove the Knicks to the playoffs.
With his remarkable performance in the playoffs, the 27-year-old guard imprinted his name in the league’s history books. As per The Athletic’s report, Brunson became the only player after NBA legend Michael Jordan to score at least 37 points in four back-to-back playoff games.
Brunson accomplished it from Game 3 to 6 while MJ did it in the 1993 NBA Finals from Game 2 to 5 against the Phoenix Suns. In the series, Jordan scored 42, 44, 55 and 41 points. Following the footsteps of His Airness and achieving the same feat is in itself a bigger victory.
Jalen Brunson also became the third player in NBA Playoff history to record more than 40 points and 10 assists in a series-clinching win. With his playoff numbers, Jalen Brunson exceeded the expectations of NBA enthusiasts and pulled the New York side to the second round of the playoff series.
Jalen Brunson’s Playoff Series in Numbers
Brunson didn’t have it too glittery in the opening two games of the series, where he scored 22 and 24 points, respectively, and secured a 2-0 lead. However, he quickly got a grip in Game 3 and added a double-double with 39 points and 13 assists while shooting 13-of-27 from the floor and 3-of-7 from behind the arc. However, the Sixers were a more dominant side in the third game and turned the result to 2-1.
The All-Star guard came back more robust in the following game and recorded 47 points, 4 rebounds, and 10 assists while attempting 34 shots from the floor and hitting 18 of them on target. Though the 6-foot-2 guard contributed 40 points to the Knicks’ scoreboard in Game 5, the Sixers won by a narrow margin.
