Tensions certainly seem to be building between the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors, as dirty plays have marred the last two games of their best-of-seven Western Conference Semi-Final series.
In Game 2, it was a flagrant foul by Memphis’ Dillon Brooks that ended Gary Payton II’s playoffs — after which, Warriors coach Steve Kerr claimed that Brooks had broken the NBA “code” with his actions.
Fast forward a few days later to game three at the Chase Center in San Francisco. While battling for a loose ball, Golden State’s Jordan Poole could be seen grabbing at the knee of Ja Morant, injuring the Grizzlies’ star and causing him to limp off the court and into the locker room shortly after.
According to Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins, Morant is undergoing further evaluation and there is no word yet on the significance of his injury.
Even if Ja is feeling better, he clearly didn’t appreciate the play by Poole. The 2022 Most Improved Player took to social media to call out both Poole and Steve Kerr with a since-deleted Tweet that read, “Broke the Code,” which was an obvious reference to Kerr’s comments about Brooks a few days earlier.

Poole obviously denied any wrongdoing, claiming he was merely going for the ball, adding that he’s “not even that type of player.”
Poole’s teammate, Klay Thompson, also felt as though there was nothing malicious about the play.
I bet Ja Morant feels otherwise. Hopefully this won’t prevent him from taking the court on Monday, as his Grizzlies look to even the series at two apiece in Game 4.
