This week, it was reported by a Washington Post journalist that Ja Morant punched a 17-year-old multiple times and then retrieved a gun and pointed it at him. The alleged incident reportedly came four days after another incident in which Morant allegedly threatened the head of security at a Memphis mall.
The teenage boy reportedly told police Morant punched him 12 or 13 times during a pickup basketball game at the point guard’s house. He claimed Morant and a friend hit him so hard it left a “large knot” on the side of his head, which police observed themselves.
Keenan Carter, the lawyer of the Grizzlies star, released a statement, claiming that the report about his client is defamatory and a ‘blatant lie.’
“Today, a Washington Post journalist chose to post a blatant lie to social media, claiming Mr. Morant pointed a gun at a 17-year-old. There was not and is not a basis for this defamatory statement,” Carter statement reads, as published by TANDEM on Twitter. “To be clear – this did not happen and no one claims that it did other than one irresponsible journalist. Her conduct was both unprofessional and reckless. Mr. Morant will defend his name, reputation, and seek legal recourse immediately.”
Morant’s agent Jim Tanner further added that the incident with the teenager was his client acting in self-defense and that he did not have a firearm.
This news is fresh off a report of his involvement in an altercation after a game against the Indiana Pacers earlier this season where a red laser was allegedly pointed at staff after a heated contest.
