The Memphis Grizzlies have sidelined their star guard, Ja Morant, due to a right hip injury he suffered in a game against the Los Angeles Lakers on November 6, 2024. It looks like he’s dealing with a posterior hip subluxation and some Grade 1 pelvic muscle strains. At first, everyone thought it was just a hamstring issue, but after further tests, it was clear it was a lot more serious, especially after he took a hard fall in that game.
Right now, the team has listed Morant as week-to-week, so they do not expect him to be back anytime soon. He has already missed a few games, including the Grizzlies’ recent 142-131 win against the Chicago Bulls on November 23. Before the injury, he was putting up solid numbers — 20.6 points, 9.1 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game over the first eight games of the season.
The Grizzlies haven’t given an exact timeline for his return, but if everything goes well with his recovery, there’s a chance he could be back sometime this month. It’s been tough without him, though, even with Memphis managing a 10-7 record after their win against the Bulls.
How Morant’s Injury Is Affecting The Grizzlies
Morant’s injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Grizzlies, who are also missing other key players like Desmond Bane and Marcus Smart. Despite the challenges, they’ve shown some serious resilience lately. In the Chicago game, Scotty Pippen Jr. really took charge, dropping a career-high 30 points and playing a huge role in the offense.
Other stars including the likes of Jaren Jackson Jr. and Santi Aldama have also stepped up. Jackson dropped 23 points against the Bulls, keeping the team in the mix. Even without Morant, the Grizzlies are staying competitive in the West, adjusting well and finding ways to score.
The team is definitely hoping Morant makes a fast recovery since getting him back would be huge for their playoff hopes. With Morant on the floor, they have a net rating of +13.9, but it drops to -3.0 when he’s out. So, as the season progresses, his recovery will be key to Memphis’ long-term success, especially with some important games that could affect their playoff standing.
