A close friend of Ja Morant reportedly told authorities the NBA star owns a firearm.
Morant has been suspended for the first 25 games of next season after appearing in a second video brandishing a pistol. According to Lucas Finton of the Memphis Commercial Appeal, an associate of Ja’s, Davonte Pack, said the player does own a Glock 40 as part of a deposition but noted that he was holding a lighter bearing the appearance of a gun in the most recent video.
Pack’s deposition was made in reference to reports claiming the two-time All-Star had assaulted a teenager at his house in 2022.
Morant is said to have punched the teen before going into the house to get a gun. However, the Shelby County District Attorney’s office opted not to press charges due to a lack of evidence.
Finton notes Pack’s deposition came as a result of a lawsuit filed in September and, while Morant has not been deposed, he could be in the future.
Since that incident, Ja has found himself in no shortage of trouble. But things really came to a head when he went on Instagram Live waving a gun while at a Denver strip club in March. He was suspended by the league for eight games and expressed contrition.
