The Memphis Grizzlies’ Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. have been among the league’s greatest young tandems over the past five seasons. In a recent reflection on his time in Memphis, Jackson mentioned that he hoped his co-star would stay with the team long.
On Sunday, “901 Day,” an “unofficial celebration of Memphis’ culture, creativity, and community,” was celebrated. In a subsequent tweet, the prominent striker mentioned the duration of his tenure with the team.
In response to Jackson’s remark, Morant wished his teammate would stay with the Grizzlies.
Morant said, “Better not go nowhere, either.”
Morant’s contract expires at the end of the 2027–2028 season, giving him four more seasons to play. However, Jackson’s contract is only suitable for another two years. Thus, in 2026, if he does not sign an extension, he will be free to join any team.
Jackson is one of the NBA’s most athletic rim finishers. Morant has shown to be an excellent complement to Jackson’s outside shooting and rim defense. Despite the success of their early careers, Morant seems to want to see the two of them stick together.

Jaren Jackson Jr. Hinted Towards His Contract Extension After Ja Morant’s Reply
Jackson used a lock emoji in response to Ja Morant’s encouraging tweet on Sunday, suggesting he is keen to sign a long-term deal with the Grizzlies.
Jackson and the Grizzlies will try to recover from their injury-plagued 2023–24 season in the following campaign. Their 13th-place finish in the Western Conference came despite only having Morant play in nine games because of a right shoulder issue.
Jackson is a member of the Grizzlies for his first six NBA seasons. He became one of the league’s best defenders in 2018. Later, he was named the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, he has been named to two All-NBA Defensive first teams. Moreover, he has been nominated to the All-Star squad and led the league in blocks twice.
