Memphis police records show that Ja Morant was accused of repeatedly punching a teenage boy in the head and threatening him with a gun last summer.
The Washington Post has reported coming into possession of said records, which note that the teen told police he was assaulted by the Grizzlies star during a pickup basketball game at Morant’s house. The incident was reported to have left the boy nursing a large lump on the side of his head.
Morant’s accuser told detectives from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office that the point guard went inside his house after the fight and returned with his hand on a gun which was visible in the waistband of his trousers.
The NBA star told police he was acting in self-defense but struck first after the boy threw a basketball at his head before issuing threats, including “I’m gonna come back and light this place up like fireworks.”
The player filed his own report three weeks later, claiming the teen threatened his family.
No charges were filed as the Sheriff’s Office decided that there was not enough evidence to mount a case.

The events noted above are reported to have taken place four days after Morant threatened the head of security in the parking lot of a Memphis mall during an altercation. An individual who was with Morant is accused of shoving the security guard in the head, but no arrests were made.
Last month, it was reported that a member of Morant’s entourage trained a laser on a member of the Pacers staff after a game with the Grizzlies.
A Pacers security guard said he was certain the laser was part of a firearm but the NBA could not corroborate any threats with a weapon, though it has banned certain individuals from attending games at the FedExForum in Memphis.
