The item, a copy of “The Old Man And The Sea” read and signed by the deceased star was listed by Goldin this week. Kobe read the book while he was attending high school in 1994 and he would go straight to the NBA two years later, opting to skip college for a career in pro basketball.
The decision paid off handsomely and the former Laker enjoyed an illustrious career. It’s just sad that he wasn’t able to live out his retirement as he planned.
The copy of the aforementioned book sold for $10,500 this Friday. As you can see in the photos above, it was borrowed from the Lower Merion High School library in 1994.
