After the Dallas Mavericks’ heartbreaking loss in last season’s finale, the team felt the need to add another superstar alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. After much speculation, the Mavericks acquired Klay Thompson from the Golden State Warriors. The Mavs general manager, Nico Harrison, recently opened up, sharing their mindset for bringing the 5-time All-Star player.
“I mean, it was a no-brainer for us, you know, especially after the finals. We knew that we needed; we were Klay Thompson away, we felt,” Harrison said.
Thompson went on to help the Warriors reach the NBA Finals six times between 2015 and 2022, winning four titles. Hence, bringing the 34-year-old in is expected to add more fuel to the on-court chemistry of Doncic and Kyrie in the upcoming season.
Baron Davis Reflects on Klay Thompson’s Departure from the Warriors
Klay Thompson’s contribution to the Golden State Warriors success in the last decade was immense. The team’s former player, Baron Davis, also understands the impact of losing the veteran player.
During his appearance on “The Draymond Green Show,” Davis expressed his disappointment over the end of the Thompson era in Golden State, mentioning him as a ‘Klay fan.’
“I hate to see it. Because y’all were babies, and it’s similar to how we feel about Kobe here in LA because you watch people go from young men to men to superstars to legends. So I wish Klay the best because I’m a Klay fan,” Davis said.

“I’m a player fan first, so whatever the player wants to do, I support it. But as a Warriors fan and knowing what he meant to the Warriors, I just hope they do the documentary, do the welcome back, and just honor the man the way he’s supposed to. But sh*t, man, the dynasty is over. This is not the storybook ending that is supposed to happen,” he added.
