The Dallas Mavericks have been struggling without their star player, Luka Doncic, who has been sidelined since suffering a calf strain on Christmas Day against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The team will once again be without their leader when they take on the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, head coach Jason Kidd recently shared a positive update, stating that Doncic is making progress in his recovery and is “trending in the right direction.” Recent reports also suggested that he might return before the All-Star break. Before his injury, Luka was averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game this season.
Meanwhile, injuries have also plagued the rest of the Mavs roster. Maxi Kleber (foot), Dwight Powell (hip), and Dereck Lively (ankle) are all ruled out for the upcoming game. Dante Exum (wrist) remains day-to-day, and Naji Marshall is questionable due to illness.
On the Pelicans side, Brandon Ingram (ankle) and Herbert Jones (shoulder) will be unavailable. Additionally, Dejounte Murray is listed as probable with an elbow issue.
Miami Heat Laying Groundwork For Elite Signing With Luka Doncic In Mind
The ongoing drama between the Miami Heat and Jimmy Butler has frustrated many in the NBA world. However, the Heat are already planning for the future, positioning themselves to have more than $80 million in cap space by the summer of 2026. According to Miami Herald reporter Barry Jackson, the Heat want to add a superstar whose skill set aligns with that of Luka Doncic.
“Taking on non-All-Stars whose contracts run past 2025-26 has been a nonstarter for Miami, which is positioned to have more than $80 million in cap space that summer. Several All Stars, including Luka Doncic, are eligible to become free agents that summer,” the report read.

While Miami appears to be preparing for a major signing, Doncic has shown no signs of wanting to leave the Dallas Mavericks. The Heat may be hoping for a superstar addition. Yet, whether Doncic or another top player will be available remains uncertain.
