The excitement surrounding the upcoming NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks is at an all-time high. Celtics fans are particularly focused on the status of their forward, Kristaps Porzingis, who has been battling an injury. Head coach Joe Mazzulla recently disclosed an encouraging update on the forward’s injury.
Following Saturday’s practice, Mazzulla shared that Porzingis participated fully in the team’s activities.
“He did everything the team did. We’ll go significantly harder tomorrow. Today was moderate, but he went through everything the team did today,” Mazzulla said.
Porzingis has been sidelined throughout the conference finals due to a right soleus strain. He sustained a non-contact injury during the first-round series against the Miami Heat.
Nevertheless, there is growing optimism about his availability for Game 1 of the NBA Finals. The Celtics have even included him as a starter forward in their lineup for the final.

However, despite Porzingis’ absence, the Celtics have performed remarkably. They boast a 10-1 record without him and are currently on a seven-game winning streak. However, with him, the team’s performance on both ends of the court could easily be a threat to the opponents.
When Porzingis is on the court, the Celtics are notably stronger, particularly in rim protection. Before his injury, he averaged 12.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game in the playoffs.
Joe Mazzulla has also praised Porzingis for his strength and leadership.
“He’s been through so much in this league that he has a poise and a temperament about him. He’s got great perspective. I think that’s been a gift for our team this year,” Mazzulla said.
The Celtics vs. Mavericks Game 1 is scheduled for June 6 at the TD Garden.
