According to recent reports by ESPN analyst Adrian Wojnarowski, Boston Celtics forward Kristaps Porzingis will be questionable for Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks. Wojnarowski mentioned that Porzingis is expected to try to play in the NBA Finals despite struggling with injuries.
“As Boston’s Kristaps Porzingis told reporters, he’s determined and expects to continue to try and play with this tendon injury in the Finals. For now, there’s no indication he’ll be ruled out and not permitted to try in Game 3, sources said.” Wojnarowski wrote.
In addition to Wojnarowski, Malika Andrews, host of NBA Today, also provided an update on Porzingis’ injury status. She mentioned that the 28-year-old Celtics forward was walking with a sleeve on his left ankle and that he was walking normally. She also mentioned that Porzingis told reporters that he would do everything to play and support his team in the NBA finals.
“Kristaps Porzingis is walking around with a sleeve on his left ankle but isn’t limping and seems to be in good spirits. When he met with reporters, he said, “I’ll do everything I have to be out there” for Game 3, but the medical staff will make final decisions.” Andrews wrote.
Porzingis sustained a torn medial retinaculum injury
Porzingis sustained a torn medial retinaculum injury during Game 2 of the NBA finals against the Mavericks. However, Porzingis’ injury didn’t affect the Celtics’ performance, and the Celtics won the second game of the series, taking a 2-0 lead against Dallas. During the first-round series against the Miami Heat, Porzingis sustained a calf injury, which kept him out of games for an extended period of recovery. After a long recovery, Porzingis made a great comeback in Game 1 of the NBA finals series and finished the game with 20 points and six rebounds. Additionally, with 1:09 left in the first quarter and the Celtics ahead 31–20, Porzingis drained a long 29-foot transition 3-pointer to increase the lead to 14 points (34–20).
