The Philadelphia 76ers are reeling from a 109-99 loss to the Phoenix Suns, and things aren’t looking brighter for their next game against the Washington Wizards. Fans hoping for a rebound performance may have to temper their expectations. Joel Embiid has been ruled out for Wednesday’s game.
Embiid is out due to a lingering left foot sprain. Embiid missed the game against the Suns as well and has appeared in just 13 games this season as he continues to battle the injury.

Jared McCain is still recovering from meniscus surgery and remains out, while Andre Drummond is listed as questionable with a left toe sprain.
The injury concerns extend to the Wizards as well. Jordan Poole is listed as questionable with a hip issue, while Marvin Bagley and Saddiq Bey are out due to knee injuries. Malcolm Brogdon will miss the game with a foot problem, and Bilal Coulibaly’s status is uncertain due to illness. Bub Carrington is also questionable with an ankle injury.
Nick Nurse Hints At Change In Managing Joel Embiid’s Playing Time
The Philadelphia 76ers have been cautious with Joel Embiid’s return from injury. Till now they’ve opted to rest their star center during back-to-back games. Nevertheless, the team is now considering a shift in strategy. Head coach Nick Nurse recently addressed the issue during a press conference when asked if the Sixers would continue this approach for Embiid.
“I think there should be some improvement in that as far as guys playing. I think we would like to be hoping guys are playing, whether it’s a back-to-back or not,” Nurse said.

Embiid is averaging 24.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game this season. His presence was particularly impactful in December, when the Sixers delivered strong performances following his comeback. However, the team’s momentum faltered again in January as they’ve won only one of their four games so far.
