Emotions ran high during Game 3 between the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets, particularly for D’Angelo Russell, who fell short. Russell struggled to make shots in a critical game last night, going 0-for-7 from the floor with no points, as per the NBA website.
The Lakers’ goal in the third game against the Nuggets was to win. Only Austin Reaves scored double digits, though, meaning LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the supporting cast, were a complete nonentity. Russell, in particular, struggled to make shots the entire evening.
Fans noted D’Angelo Russell’s absence from the team huddle, among other things. The squad was discussing a strategy when fans spotted the former All-Star snacking on the bench. In addition, he was the first Lakers player out of the game.
Nick Young, the point guard’s former teammate, confronted the problem on Instagram after learning about what the player had done. “Nah man. It’s over, dog. It’s over. Nah, this s**t is over. I wouldn’t have just gone back to the locker room after the game. It’s over for you. Your a** is through. I’m lost for words.” Young said.

The Lakers and their supporters have struggled throughout the 2024 NBA playoffs. The team has yet to win a game since the Golden State Warriors series in the previous year’s playoffs. They are in danger of losing to the Nuggets again after being swept by them in the conference finals.

Amidst all this, there have been whispers that D’Angelo Russell may decide to become a free agent by exercising his player option for the 2024–25 campaign. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst further clarified this notion in his podcast, “The Hoop Collective.”
“It’s likely that D’Angelo Russell is gonna opt out of his contract, OK. Because the Lakers gave him a one-year with a player option and I would say it’s likely he’s gonna opt out of that and once he’s a free agent, they can’t really trade him,” Windhorst stated.
