Damian Lillard, the point guard for the Milwaukee Bucks, posted a picture of himself on Instagram on Thursday, smiling alongside Bam Adebayo, the center for the Miami Heat. Since they were both wearing warm-up attire, the photo was probably shot at one of their earlier encounters this season. Lillard uploaded several pictures to his tales, but he provided no explanation or background for the picture.
But the photo of Adebayo had NBA fans start spreading rumors. Many speculated that Lillard may hint at his potential position for the upcoming season. Lillard famously sought a trade to the Miami Heat this summer while he was still with the Portland Trail Blazers. The Blazers turned down his request and traded him to Milwaukee.
Lillard had made it clear that his close connection with Adebayo was one of the reasons he wanted to play in Miami. When asking questions about the post’s motivations, fans invoked the well-known phrase from Brian Windhorst.
ESPN reporter Windhorst famously questioned why the Utah Jazz would act, implying that a more significant transaction was imminent. Rudy Gobert was dealt to Minnesota the next day. Fans are now interpreting his remarks as a hint as to whether Lillard is hinting.
Where Could Damian Lillard Potentially Land This Summer?
Damian Lillard was not granted his wish to join the Miami Heat. This summer, he could try to make the same trade demand. A lot most likely hinges on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s health and summer activities. Neither player needs to be traded by the Bucks.
In addition to his three-year contract, Damian Lillard has a $63 million player option in 2026–2027, as per Spotrac. Next season, he is expected to earn $48.7 million, a salary that would be difficult to trade given Lillard’s decline in output this year.

Antetokounmpo signed a contract extension before the current campaign, so his contract still has four years and $224 million left. The Bucks will want both studs back, whatever the outcome of their first-round matchup.
