The Los Angeles Lakers will take on the Portland Trail Blazers tonight, on January 2, 2024. A lot of fans are wondering whether Lakers star center Anthony Davis will play. They are coming off a 110-122 defeat against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the last game.
As per the latest injury report, Davis is listed as questionable because of a sprained left ankle. This injury has everyone concerned because Davis had a fantastic performance the last time these two teams met. He scored 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Lakers have also improved with the addition of Dorian Finney-Smith. They’re looking to capitalize on the Blazers’ struggles, which have seen them win just three games in 16 games. However, the Lakers will try to improve their 18-14 stats with LeBron James finally on their side.

On the other hand, Portland is dealing with its own injury issues ahead of tonight’s game. They will be without key players like Jerami Grant and Matisse Thybulle. Coach Chauncey Billups will likely have to rely on a less experienced lineup against the Lakers that looks ready to rebound after their recent loss. Plus, LeBron James is back in action after his birthday bash, which should help the Lakers a lot.
Anthony Davis Openly Praised Cleveland Cavaliers
The Lakers faced a tough opponent and ended up losing against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Even though they played pretty well overall, they couldn’t avoid the loss at home. The Cav’s performance impressed Davis, and he couldn’t help giving them their well-desired credit.

“They’re a good ball club. Number one and elite for a reason. I said, anytime we make a make a push, they make a run of their own to create more separation. And we got good looks that we missed. And they got looks that they made. So that was a difference in the game,” Davis said after the game.

However, he also pointed out that their two big men, Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley, made it really hard for LA to score. Davis explained that even if one of them is helping out on the perimeter, the other is right there in the paint to block shots and defend the rim. This makes it tough for players like him to find good scoring opportunities, as their presence changes the way you approach attacking the basket.
Despite the loss, Davis is feeling positive about where the Lakers are heading. He believes the team is moving in the right direction. However, he did note that they missed a lot of good shots and that making even half of those would have changed the outcome of the game. With new teammates like Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton joining the squad, Davis is hopeful that they will all get more practice together to improve their chemistry.
