Speculation is mounting that the Los Angeles Lakers might consider moving on from Darvin Ham, and a name has already surfaced for his replacement, and LeBron James may have found his guy.
The Los Angeles Lakers head coaching post is unofficially open as a result of the team’s first-round playoff loss. Ever since they were defeated in the 2023 Western Conference Finals, there have been calls for Darvin Ham’s dismissal, yet Ham was given every opportunity to establish his worth.
Time has run out.
As per Rashad McCants, a former NBA player, fans shouldn’t be shocked if JJ Redick replaces him. McCants stated in a recent episode of the Gilbert Arenas podcast, ‘Gil’s Arena‘ that Redick and LeBron James started the podcast to get ready for their future collaboration as coach and player in Los Angeles.
“JJ and LeBron start a podcast. JJ says he wants to be a coach. LeBron knows that Darvin’s a–, and his days are numbered. JJ gets hired by the Lakers. LeBron is still a player. JJ coaches LeBron. He brings in Bronny, and the podcast thrives,” McCants explained.

Redick co-hosts a podcast called “Mind the Game,” which LeBron debuted in March. Every week, the two “great basketball minds” debate the game’s current status, break down the Xs and Os, and wax poetic about their passion. This is all according to the show’s producers. The relationship between them is already in place should the Lakers take the chance to make LeBron James happy and keep him in town.
During his career, JJ Redick and LeBron James never got the chance to team up on the floor, so this new rumor could finally have them playing for the same team.
LeBron James Future With The Lakers Is In Doubt
It isn’t practical to build your NBA team around a 39-year-old, but LeBron is still doing things at his advanced age that nobody has ever seen before.
The Lakers’ underwhelming season is now over, and LeBron James can become a free agent. Immediately after the Los Angeles Lakers season ended with a loss to the Denver Nuggets on Monday night, speculation began to swirl about his future.
The 20-time All-Star can opt out of his contract with the Lakers and become an unrestricted free agent for the first time since 2018, but if the Lakers draft his on Bronny, then things can change quickly.
