Luka Doncic has left the Dallas Mavericks in one of the most unlikely trades ever.
The Slovenian point guard is now set for another career chapter as he will represent the Purple and Gold following an agreement with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The move sees Anthony Davis go the other way. And time will tell which team actually benefits more from the trade. For now, it certainly appears that the Mavericks gave up a lot more than they got back, although both teams have acquired superstar players.
While no one saw this coming, reports indicate that the Mavs were frustrated with Doncic’s struggles with weight and didn’t think committing to him on a super-max deal was the best way forward.
Doncic would have been eligible for a five-year extension worth $345 million at the end of the season and Dallas clearly didn’t want to pay him that despite his status as the face of the franchise.
Might There Have Been A Trainer Rift Between Luka Doncic And The Mavs?
It’s since been rumored that there may have been an issue with the trainers Luka used during his time with the team, with a source comparing it to the rift between Tom Brady and the Patriots over his commitment to Alex Guerrero.

This should be treated as conjecture for now, but it has been confirmed that team brass was unhappy with Luka Doncic’s weight, with the player said to have gotten to the high 260s at one point this season.
The Mavs lost faith in Luka’s ability to avoid injuries by getting down to a desired weight and parted ways instead of sticking with him under super-max terms.
Now everyone’s looking forward to seeing how his career pans out in L.A.
