Bennedict Mathurin may not have been a big name coming into the 2022 NBA Draft, but he is making a name for himself this week after his latest comments on LeBron James.
Mathurin, the No. 6 overall pick in this year’s draft, revealed that he’s looking forward to playing James because he doesn’t think the Lakers star is better than him right now.
“A lot of people say he’s great. I want to see how great he is,” Mathurin said, via The Washington Post. “I don’t think anybody is better than me. He’s going to have to show me he’s better than me.”
Last season, Mathurin averaged 17.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for Arizona as a sophomore.
As for James, it is unlikely he’ll make a big deal out of the stern challenge from the Pacers’ draft pick, but he’ll certainly remember when it comes time for them to play this upcoming season.
James is 37 years old and will be starting his 20th NBA season this fall.
