D’Angelo Russell opened up about his future with the LA Lakers, which had been under scrutiny for a while. Following their early exit from the playoff series, the guard made some revelations about his contract, which gave a brief that he had already chalked out his plans.
“When I signed my contract last year, I knew what position I was going to put myself in, so to be in that position now with a little leverage, I’ll try to take advantage of it,” said Russell.
The 28-year-old could be a free agent this summer if he rejects his player option worth $18 million. D’Lo made it clear that he will utilize all the leverage that could get him a good deal as he feels he has done a great job throughout the season.
D’Angelo Russell Reflects on His Season Performance
Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell displayed glimpses of his magic on the hardwood following his return to the LA franchise. The man himself is pretty impressed with his performance throughout the season and does not need others’ judgment on it.
On being asked about how he sees his performance and what he has proved so far in this season, DLo said, “Oh, hell of a year by D’Angelo, humbly saying that through the ups and downs. Through all the, whatever you want to call it, it never bothered me. I always kept myself sane. When I look at my phone, my family, my friends, and my circle, just texting me telling me how proud they are of me. For me, that’s all I need. I don’t need anything else.”
