After facing legal issues that prevented him from participating in the NBA, Kevin Porter Jr. signed with PAOK Mateco, a Greek team. On Saturday, Porter Jr. led PAOK to victory over Maroussi in the Greek League (ESAKE) with an impressive performance, scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists.
In October 2023, Kevin Porter Jr. was fired from the NBA following accusations of domestic abuse and other offenses from his then-companion, former WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick. Three months later, he pleaded guilty to minor assault and harassment charges.
In a post-game interview on Saturday, Porter expressed his desire to return to the NBA if given the opportunity, but otherwise will continue playing for PAOK. He has not considered any other clubs to play for at this time.
“I guess we’re going to have to wait until that happens, but if it’s up to me, I don’t see myself when it comes to overseas standpoint if I’m staying out here [for] another year. If I have the opportunity to go back to the NBA, then I’ll probably go back to the NBA. If it’s not the NBA, I don’t want to play for any other club than PAOK. I feel like they welcomed me and gave me the chance that a lot of people looked over. I’m very grateful. It’s a family here, and it’s very family-oriented. That’s what I needed to get out of the shell I was in, so I can’t see myself playing for any club overseas besides PAOK.” Porter said during the interview.
