Kevin Durant and the Suns were handed an early vacation courtesy of the Timberwolves after a clean series sweep. Sunday night saw the Minnesota team win game 4 of the series 122-116 series, ending the Phoenix franchise’s postseason dreams.
During the postgame press conference, KD was asked to assess his performance in the postseason series. The 2-time NBA Champion said, “I won’t provide context, whenever I provide context it’ll be looked at as an excuse so I’ll just be better next year.” Durant was also questioned about his motivation for coming back next season to which he responded by saying, “I live and breathe this shit, bro. At this point in my life, I got a lot of shit going on outside of basketball, but what I’m mainly focused on is ball, bro.” He made it clear that loves the game and will be back again with renewed vigor next year.
While he talked about his future in the game, the Suns’ Big 3 performance this term has been underwhelming, primarily due to Bradley Beal’s below-par season. Some reports even indicated how exactly KD felt about being in that mix who was supposed to lead the franchise all the way to glory this season.
Kevin Durant Reportedly Felt Uncomfortable in Suns’ Big 3
After assembling the Big 3, Kevin Durant Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, the Suns looked optimistic about fighting for the championship trophy. However, their bubble burst on Sunday when the Timberwolves swept them from the first-round playoffs. With their exit from the tournament, the revelation of Durant’s lack of comfortness around his teammates came out in the open.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania stated, “Those sources said Durant had persistent issues with the offense, feeling that he was being relegated to the corner far too often and not having the proper designs to play to his strengths as the offense was built around pick-and-rolls.” Durant reportedly believes that the team’s offensive strategy does not align with his abilities which resulted in a terrible 4-0 loss in the playoffs.

Booker averaged 27.5 points in the playoffs, Durant added 26.8 points per game, whereas Beal chipped in just 16.5 points per game. Since the internal concerns have surfaced, the Phoenix franchise needs to address the issue and work on it to revive the team next year.
