NBA superstar LeBron James’ son, Bronny James, made his much-anticipated debut for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Sacramento Kings in the California Classic. Despite the hype, Bronny’s performance in his debut did not earn him praise from fans. Nevertheless, the Lakers rookie reflected on his experience and shared his thoughts after the game.
“Every first game that I step on the next level there’s always some butterflies in my stomach, but as soon as the ball tips and we go a couple times down it all goes away and I’m just playing basketball. It’s always going to be there but get through it,” Bronny said.
During the game, Bronny struggled, scoring 4 points on 2-for-9 shooting and missing all three of his three-point attempts. He also contributed a pair of assists, two rebounds, and a steal in just under 22 minutes of playing time.
The 19-year-old guard was drafted by the Lakers as the 55th overall pick in the second round, following his collegiate career at the University of Southern California. Among the Lakers’ two draft picks, Bronny’s one received much backlashes due to his lackluster college career.

While Bronny’s on-court performance fell short, he felt overwhelmed by the support from fans, especially those from the Bay Area, traditionally dominated by Golden State Warriors fans. He expressed gratitude for the unexpected turnout of support.
“The atmosphere, it was more than I expected. It’s a big game for me, but I didn’t know the people of Golden State would come and rep for me, so that was pretty nice to see,” Bronny said after the game.
Bronny aims to use the Summer League as an opportunity to grow and improve. He knows the high expectations set for him and hopes to develop his skills to match the love and encouragement he received in his debut game.
