Paul George’s departure has ended the minimum hopes that the LA Clippers had of contending for the championship title. So NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins advised the franchise’s ace Kawhi Leonard to move out as early as possible.
While discussing on “NBA Today” whether the franchise could run for the title race in PG-13’s absence, Perkins stated, “Even if they had Paul George, they weren’t gonna be in contention, and if I were Kawhi Leonard, I would ask to get out of there.” The ESPN analyst further added, “He knows what a championship team looks like, and dammit, that’s not one of them.”
Kawhi has experienced championship victories with the Spurs and Raptors before landing in LA. Therefore, he knows the caliber a team requires for the glorious title which the Clippers lack, as per Perkins. He also thinks following Paul George would be the wiser choice for the small forward.
The Clippers added Kawhi with George five years ago in 2019 in the hopes of claiming their first Larry O’Brien Trophy. However, the pair could never reach the second round of the playoffs, let alone appear in the NBA Finals.
The franchise didn’t seem keen on continuing their journey with Paul George, so he moved on to bag the prestigious ring missing from his accolades.
Paul George Has Championship in Mind With Sixers
The Clippers were reluctant to offer Paul George the maximum contract he was looking for. So the 34-year-old entered the free agency market after rejecting his $48.7 million player option. Fortunately for the veteran, there were candidates waiting in a queue.

Despite the Warriors’ extreme interest, George settled with the Philadelphia 76ers. Forming a trio with the Sixers stars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey could result in the best interest of both George and Philly.
They made George an offer of $212 million for four years, which he couldn’t reject. His veteran experience would help the Sixers move towards the ultimate goal.
Though George has expressed that he is not chasing the championship trophy, a ring would certainly elevate his otherwise successful career.
