In a recent episode of the NBA Today show on ESPN, former NBA player Kendrick Perkins made some bold statements about Anthony Davis, the Los Angeles Lakers center.
The 39-year-old former NBA player asserted that Davis will demand a trade. He also mentioned that if JJ Redick, the frontrunner for the next Lakers head coach position, is not thriving and the Lakers center is not playing with full effort and demands a trade, then it won’t be surprising. He also mentioned this around the All-Star break.
“If JJ Redick is not thriving and Anthony Davis is not playing at an elite level, and he’s not happy. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wants out of LA. I’m gonna give it til All-Star break.” Perkins said.
Anthony Davis Has Had a Dominant Season
Davis has had a dominant season, delivering back-to-back stunning performances. However, The 31-year-old star player averaged 24.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 76 games this season. Despite his efforts, the Lakers fell short of winning the championship this year. LA Lakers were eliminated in the first round of the playoff series against the Denver Nuggets.
In 2019, the Pelicans traded Davis to the Lakers for Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, Brandon Ingram, and three first-round draft picks, including the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft. From that point on, Davis became a key player for the Lakers. Additionally, Alongside LeBron James, Davis helped the franchise advance to the 2020 NBA Finals and defeated the Miami Heat 4-2, winning the Lakers’ 17th championship.
Recently, an NBA insider provided some insight into the Lakers’ decision to recruit new talent for the team. According to the insider, the Lakers are looking to add a new center to the roster. This move aims to create more opportunities for Anthony Davis. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest power forwards of all time, to play in his preferred position at power forward.
