The Pelicans are currently the sixth seed in the Western Conference and a big share of credit for their placement goes to their star Zion Williamson. Drafted as the number one pick by the Pelicans in the 2019 NBA Draft, Zion has failed to live up to the expectations of the franchise and the fans. He had to experience setbacks due to injuries very early on in his career and was often ridiculed or criticized for the disappointment.
In his recent interview with the Athletic’s William Guillory, Zion Williamson expressed his love for the game of basketball and the New Orleans Pelicans. “People do not understand how much I really love this. I pour everything into it, doing my best for the team and for people who support me in New Orleans. I get it. You can only go off of the information that is in front of you. That is the great thing about the opportunity… We get to write our own story,” said Zion.

Zion Williamson has dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the game of basketball as evident in his recent performances. Despite falling short of initial expectations and facing criticism from the media and analysts, the 2019 number one draft pick did not let it demotivate him.
Williamson climbed his way back up, regaining the support of both fans and the franchise, enduring challenges and focusing on personal growth. Zion is a once-in-a-generation talent that is hard to come by. Despite his heavy build, he has the ability to leap and score incredible baskets.

However, the Pelicans star seemed to have lost some of his prowess as he gained more weight. He was criticized for his overweight build many times and instead of lashing out at others, he decided to listen to the criticism.
