Charles Barkley is well known for his candid views on anything and everything. With his role as an analyst on TNT, he gets to hand out his brutally honest takes on the game daily. Multiple podcasts and interviews also give him the necessary platform to talk about the rest. NFL legend Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast is one of those platforms where Chuck recently touched on many things, including his standing in the black community.
Speaking to the host about the reception he gets from his community, the former Sixers forward said, “I always wanna uplift black people. Always. I know people gonna hate on me. And they gonna be black. Man, I love to see black people doing good. I’m old enough and am around enough to know there’s going to be some hate coming towards me. Especially if they disagree with something I say. I’m not going to tell black people they right all the time. We can be wrong.”
He further added that even after the hate towards him, if he ever sees a black athlete or the community in trouble, he will not hesitate to step into the matter.
Charles Barkley’s love for his community showed multiple times recently, from threatening to slap a man of color who supports Donald Trump to donating a handsome fee of $5 million to Auburn University. Recently, he was seen beaming with pride due to the success of another fellow athlete from his community, Candace Parker.
