Kyrie Irving has always been a polarizing figure in the NBA, amassing a significant number of critics during his tenure with the New York Knicks. However, his recent performance with the Dallas Mavericks has caused many analysts and fans to reconsider their stance. One such analyst is ESPN’s Timothy Legler, who recently expressed his change of heart regarding Irving.
Legler admitted his regret for not giving Irving the recognition he deserved earlier in his career, despite Irving’s consistent efforts to prove his worth on the court.
“I don’t think I’ve ever admired Kyrie Irving as much as I do right now and watching him play. What he is proving is how badly he wants to win, how competitive he is,” Legler said.
Irving’s journey with the Mavericks has proved his growth as a player and leader. His determination and skill were on full display in a pivotal Game 5 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he scored an impressive 36 points, along with 4 rebounds and 5 assists.
Throughout the Western Conference Finals against the Timberwolves, Irving accumulated a total of 135 points, 18 rebounds, and 23 assists, playing a crucial role in propelling the Mavericks to the NBA Finals.

Arenas praised Doncic and Irving’s performance, particularly against the Minnesota Timberwolves, who were touted as the best defensive team in the league.
“The fact that analytics said T-Wolves is the best defensive team in the league with the best defensive player in the league..The cockiness of them is what we seen…Two guys [Luka Doncic & Kyrie Irving] destroyed them piece by piece with the SAME play,” Arenas said in his show, Gilbert Arenas show.
The Mavericks will face the Boston Celtics in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night.
