The Dallas Mavericks concluded their fourth game of a road trip with a 110-99 defeat against the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center. The Mavericks struggled against Houston’s dynamic young stars and started 2025 on a sour note.
With the victory, the Rockets improved their record to 22-11, securing the third spot in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Mavericks suffered their third consecutive loss, dropping to 20-14 and remaining just behind Houston in the standings.
Alperen Sengun And Jalen Green Steal Victory For The Houston Rockets
Alperen Sengun was the star of the night for Houston, delivering a stellar all-around performance. The Rockets’ center posted 23 points, six rebounds, four assists, and a career-high six steals to anchor his team to a home victory.
Jalen Green added 22 points and five rebounds, while Dillon Brooks contributed 19 points, six rebounds, and three three-pointers. The Rockets’ depth shone as well as Cam Whitmore making a significant impact off the bench. Whitmore scored 18 points on an efficient 7-for-9 shooting, adding three rebounds and a steal. Veteran guard Fred VanVleet chipped in with five points, five rebounds, and seven assists. He also recorded a season-high five steals.
The Mavericks fought hard but lacked the offensive spark usually provided by Luka Doncic, who is sidelined by injury. Kyrie Irving led the team with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Quentin Grimes added 17 points and three assists. Forward Klay Thompson contributed 16 points and five rebounds, but Dallas struggled to keep up with Houston’s energy.
The Mavericks also received solid efforts from Dereck Lively II, who tallied eight points, six rebounds, and six assists, and Jaden Hardy, who scored 11 points off the bench. However, the team’s inconsistency and inability to slow Houston’s dynamic offense ultimately cost them the game.
