The Suns had a forgettable playoff round 1 series against the Timberwolves. After getting swept 4-0, a lot of questions popped up regarding the future direction of the franchise. After GM James Jones addressed it, Suns’ governor Mat Ishbia talked about the current situation in the franchise and, according to him, there’s nothing to worry about.
Mat Ishbia said, “Ask the other 29 GMs, 26 of them would trade their whole team for our whole team, and our draft picks, and everything as is. The house is not on fire. We’re in a great position. It’s not hard to fix.” He further added that they do have a squad talented enough to deliver a championship, and they must focus on continuity to achieve that.
The Suns’ biggest problem has been the lack of time on the court their Big 3 of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal had together. The chemistry between the three lacked and there have been rumors of Durant’s discontent in the group. While KD’s future looks questionable in Phoenix, Ishbia’s statement suggests that the franchise is focusing on keeping the core together to have a better season next time.
Frank Vogel was another major name, who came under severe scrutiny following the first-round exit. Ishbia and GM James Jones hinted at what is next for the 50-year-old coach.
Mat Ishbia, Jones Talk About Vogel’s Future
Frank Vogel will have a long off-season in front of him and the rumors surrounding his future will remain turbulent until there is confirmation of his return next season. Mat Ishbia, when asked about Vogel’s performance this season, sidestepped the question stating that he won’t be making any comments because he is yet to talk to the HC.
James Jones, on the other hand, backed Vogel and said, “I thought Frank did a great job given the circumstances. We assembled a really talented team, primarily three scorers. Whenever you try to get guys to adjust and adapt their games, there’s a transition time. It’s sometimes a struggle, but I thought he did a great job this year.”

The Suns looked competitive by securing the final playoff spot with a 49-33 record in the regular season. But the bludgeoning by the Timberwolves in the playoffs has raised a lot of alarms among the Suns fans. While Ishbia insisted on not needing too many changes in the summer, one can assume, that keeping their Big 3 intact and getting the best out of them will be the primary task of Vogel. But to do that, Vogel will have to be around and the question about his future with the Suns still remains unanswered.
